A Midsummer Night’s Dream

One of the shows from this year’s season ticket for Broadway in San Francisco is this show called A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It was a replacement show for a show that was cancelled. Two years ago, I had a season ticket for them and they ended up with two shows being cancelled for some second rate shows, once a ballet and one a bad version of circus of some type. I was very upset and stopped my subscription for a year and went with the local shows in here San Jose.

They lured me back this year with new shows that was interesting and they assured me that they will not do the same thing this year, according to the people I spoke to. So, here I went and spent a lot of money on the shows and two of them again got cancelled. This was one of them.

That being said, I went with a fairly high expectations because they said this show is as good as what was scheduled. I was very disappointed. First, the half the cast only speaks Hindi, other half English with heavy Indian accent. Even then, I thought I would give it a chance hoping that their acting would compensate for this deficiency. Well, it only got worse. The acting was at a local college level and at times a bit forced. The set and lighting, as well as music, was fairly decent but it was unbearable to watch and I almost fell asleep several times.

Now I am convinced that I will never renew the season tickets again. What adds to this is that they are bringing other great shows, like A Chorus Line, Wicked and Hairspray but none of those shows are included in the season. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Never again.
