A Bronx Tale

Well, it’s second from last show from my Broadway season and I went to the Golden Gate Theater to see A Bronx Tale. This is not a musical. I usually like to go in to a show without any preconceived notions. I like to see it for myself and judge it’s merit solely on my personal enjoyment. I didn’t know what to expect in this one man show starring Chazz Palminteri.

Palminteri is a fine actor who I have seen in several films, usually plays a tough guy or a gangster. I didn’t know anything about his background. He actually wrote the story, apparently it was made in to a movie by De Niro but I have not seen either the movie or the play.

This show was about Palminteri’s childhood in the Bronx, growing up with all the wise guys. He described his life and his neighborhood in vivid detail.

This was a fascinating tale of the NY boroughs that not many people know about. I was always fascinated by the Mafia culture. One of my favorite movies of all the time is the Godfather series. This show was no exception. It drew me in and kept me entertained for the entire show.

Palminteri did an excellent job delivering his thoughts, emotions and speech. It was a top class job. I really enjoyed the show, despite not being a musical. He is one truly talented person, not only creating this facinating story but also surviving his childhood in such a neighborhood.
