Holes on the rock

The past weekend, I visited my friend in Carson City, Nevada. I have been there many times before and know the city pretty well by now. He took me to a place near by his house for the first time. It was off the main road a bit and some off road motorcyclists were racing in the desert.

When we got to the top of the rock that overlooked the valley, there were several round holes embedded on the rock. I was curious about this. The holes were about 12-15 inches in diameter.

He told me that these holes were made by the local Native American women, who used the rock to ground meals, such as corn. Over the years, the usage made these holes on the rocks. He also told me that about 20 feet below the water line in Lake Tahoe, there are holes like there as well.

I thought it was interesting.
